Rockwell/Rosegreen U12 County Champions!

Rockwell/Rosegreen 2-3 Mullinahone 1-4

The County U12 Football Final took place in Templetuohy on Saturday the 19 th of May. Rockwell/Rosegreen had qualified for the final after defeating Moyne/Templetuohy in the semi-final, whilst Mullinahone had accounted for Burgess. The game was played in warm, dry conditions with a stiff breeze which was to make football difficult. The opening half was tight with few scores, towards the end of the first half Rockwell/Rosegreen were ahead on a score line of 0-3 to 0-2. Coilin Bourke, Liam Moloney and Cian O’Brien had all scored points. In the dying minutes of the first half, Rockwell/Rosegreen got a lucky break when a high ball rebounded off the cross bar, luckily Conor Molony Ryan was vigilant and finished the ball to the Mullinahone net, much to the joy of those supporting Rockwell/Rosegreen.

At half time Rockwell/Rosegreen were ahead on a score line of 1-3 to 0-2. Rockwell/Rosegreen had the benefit of the breeze in the second half but Mullinahone started the second half strongly and scored 1-2 without reply. Mullinahone were now a point up with minutes remaining. Rockwell/Rosegreen to their credit never gave up, on winning a close in free it looked likely this game would go to extra time. The free was played short to Cian O’Brien who kicked the ball to the back of the Mullinahone net. Rockwell/Rosegreen were now two points up with victory in sight. Mullinahone fought hard to the bitter end but the lads from Rockwell/Rosegreen held out to win by two points. Well done to the panel of fourteen who all played their part and their mentors/coaches who had them well prepared. County Bord na nOg Chairperson Martin Bourke presented the County Cup to captain on the day David Bergin. This was a historic victory, particularly for the Rosegreen side of the amalgamation as it was Rosegreen’s first juvenile county title.
