Rockwell/Rosegreen’s Under 14’s have been busy in the last two weeks with action in the FEILE and PEIL competitions.

On the 12th of March Rockwell/Rosegreen played Galtee Rovers in New Inn in the quarter final of the PEIL competition. The adverse weather conditions resulted in poor under foot conditions. The game played under lights was refereed by Mark Jordan. Rockwell/Rosegreen got the better of the exchanges during the first half and at half time held a slight lead on a scoreline of 1-1 to 0-2. Galtee Rovers responded early in the second half with a well taken goal. A point from Rockwell/Rosegreen left the sides level, Galtee Rovers then got well on top with three goals in quick succession. This was a lead that Galtee Rovers never lost, Rockwell/Rosegreen fought hard to the very end but on the whistle, the scoreboard read Galtee Rovers 5-3 Rockwell/Rosegreen 4-3. This was the first game of the year and the defeat resulted Rockwell/Rosegreen being out of the PEIL competition. The panel now looks forward to more football action in April and May.

On the 19th of March Rockwell/Rosegreen played Emly/Treacys in Emly in the semi-final of the FEILE competition. The cold weather conditions resulted in the game being moved from Kilcommon to Emly. The game was refereed by Richie O’Connor and the pitch was in remarkably good condition considering the poor weather conditions. Rockwell/Rosegreen got the better of the exchanges in the first half taking a half time lead on a scoreline of 3-1 to 0-3. The return of 3-1 in the first half was good bearing the 15 minute half in mind. There were few scores in the second half with Rockwell/Rosegreen landing 3 points with Emly/Treacys failing to score. The final scoreline read 3-4 to 0-3. Rockwell/Rosegreen had now qualified for the final in which they were set to play Arravale Rovers who had defeated Clonoulty/Rossmore in the other semi-final.

The final of the West Tipperary FEILE B took place in Cashel on Saturday the 24th of March. Rockwell/Rosegreen were set to play Arravale Rovers with Padraig Skeffington in charge. The weather conditions were perfect and the pitch was in excellent condition. Rockwell/Rosegreen had the better of the exchanges in the first half, a well taken point by Daniel Keating was followed by 1-1 from JP Anglim, at half time Rockwell/Rosegreen had their noses in front on a scoreline of 1-2 to 0-1. Arravale Rovers gained the upper hand at the start of the second half landing 5 points without reply. Arravale Rovers were now a point ahead having gained the momentum. This was going to be a real test of the resolve of the lads from Rockwell/Rosegreen. JP Anglim landed a point for Rockwell/Rosegreen to leave the sides level with a few minutes remaining. Joe Lawrence then stepped up and scored an excellent point to get ahead by a point. JP Anglim scored a long range point to extend the lead to two points, as we all know a two point lead is a dangerous one. In the last minute of the game the Rovers men bore down on the Rockwell/Rosegreen goal seeking a goal to win the game. A shot on goal drew a great save from Colin Geraghty in the Rockwell/Rosegreen goal, as the defenders were clearing their lines the final whistle blew with Rockwell/Rosegreen winning on a scoreline of 1-5 to 0-6. This was a tight game which could have gone either way, the sides no doubt will meet again later in the year. After the game Conor English West Tipperary Bord na nOg Chairperson made the presentation to the Rockwell/Rosegreen captain Colin Geraghty. Rockwell/Rosegreen will now play Boherlahan/Dualla in the county semi-final on Saturday the 31st of March.
